User Interface Design for Ubiquitous Computing W@PNotes, an Example
نویسنده
چکیده
User interface (UI) design for ubiquitous computing is different from UI design for classical desktop-oriented applications. Interaction of a user with the system and applications takes place in a highly distributed fashion. Inputand output functionality is distributed over space, as well as time. Human-computer interaction (HCI) has to take place wherever needed and whenever needed. Due to the highly dynamic pattern of use, “classical” UI design for a single screen is poorly suited. This paper presents an architecture for designing applications bringing different inputand output channels to small devices, like mobile phones, as well as taking advantage from the benefits of a desktop computer. The W@PNotes system serves as a proof of concept for the successful use of this architecture.

متن کاملUsing Interaction Style to Match the Ubiquitous User Interface to the Device-to-Hand
Ubiquitous computing requires a multitude of devices to have access to the same services. Abstract specifications of user interfaces are designed to separate the definition of a user interface from that of the underlying service This paper proposes the incorporation of interaction style into this type of specification. By selecting an appropriate interaction style, an interface can be better ma...

We identify a set of core design techniques embodied by the WIMP desktop, specif...
